So, I've been having a few slow days at work. Right now, I'm catching up on current events.
I'm reading about health care reform. I was stunned to read that the current $1trillion bill wants to give assistance to people living with incomes up to 400% of the poverty level. Seriously? The poverty level for one person right now is $10830/year. That means if you make $43k per year, and only support yourself, you can get help for health care. I think that is WAY too high. While $43k might be tough to live on here in DC, I know people that do it... health care and all. There is talk of reducing it to 300%, or about $32k. Personally, I still think that's too much... I guess that's what makes me a republican? Plans start at $100/mo in my area. It's not that expensive.
Who wants to do a pool for when North Korea launches their first nuke at someone?
Don't even get me started on California closing its state parks to help with their budget crisis. Arnold says "Sorry you didn't get your tax refund... by the way, we're closing your favorite places to camp, hike and run.". Did anyone think ahead to what money will need to be spent to re-open them? Imagine how overgrown trails will be and how decayed buidings will be. Fail.
Is it time for happy hour yet? I need a beer!
